Shining the Light on the Hill

Thank you for stopping by our website! At Monroe UMC, we strive to shine the Light of Jesus Christ into Monroe and surrounding area. We want Jesus' love to shine through everything we do.

Whether you are 9, 39, or 79, single or married, we hope you will feel right at home serving and worship at Monroe UMC. Take some time to browse our site, or check us out on Facebook, Instagram,  or YouTube to explore further.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us by phone at 513.539.7290 or through our Contact page.

What is it like?

We're a multi-generational church, where people of all ages matter. Whether you've been raised in church, dropped out of church, or have no church background at all, there's a place for you and your family here. You'll feel right at home with regular folks just like you who desire to grow in their relationship and walk with Jesus. You'll meet new friends, experience Spirit-felt worship, and messages connected to your life from the Bible.

What is worship like?

We offer two services each Sunday morning.

Our Contemporary Service happens in Atchley Hall (our gym) at 9:30 am. (We gather around tables with light refreshments for music, prayer, scripture, and message.  (Enter at Door #7 on the east side of the building.)

Our Traditional Service is held in the Sanctuary at 11:00 am and features choir, special music, some liturgy, prayer, scripture, and message. We sing mostly traditional hymns accompanied by the organ and/or piano. (Enter directly at Door #1 on East Avenue or at Door #7 on the east side of the building, then go upstairs.)

What about my kids?

Children are ALWAYS welcome in worship at Monroe UMC. We offer a staffed Nursery for children through 4 during both the 9:30 and 11:00 am services. Kids age 3 through grade 6 are invited to Children's Church/Sunday School during the 9:30 service only. We offer worship activity bags during the 11:00 am service for kids.

Where do I park?

We have plenty of parking in lots to the north, east, and south of our building; enter either from Lebanon Street or East Avenue. We also have on-street parking along East Avenue, wherever allowed by the city.

What do I wear?

We are much more concerned about what's going on inside a person than what clothes they wear on the outside. Some folks dress up, some wear business casual, and others wear jeans. Wear what is comfortable to you and won't cause another person to stumble. At the 9:30 service, our pastor usually wears casual clothes, while at the Traditional service, the pastor often wears a robe and stole.
