Will I Still Matter as I Get Older? - Monday, 05/04/2026
Scripture: Psalm 71:9–18
One of the quiet fears many people carry is the fear of being forgotten. As bodies change and roles shift, there can be a lingering question: will I still matter? Will I still be seen?
Psalm 71 gives voice to that fear. “Do not cast me away when I am old,” the writer prays. It is an honest plea—not just about aging, but about worth, dignity, and belonging.
What’s striking is that this prayer is not filled with despair—it is filled with memory. The writer recalls how God has been present throughout life. That memory becomes a foundation for hope moving forward.
In a world that often values productivity over presence, this passage reminds us that our worth has never been based on what we can do. It is rooted in who we are—loved, known, and held by God.
Even as life changes, that truth does not. You are not less valuable because you need help. You are not forgotten because your role has shifted. You are still seen.
Reflection Question: Where do you fear being overlooked or forgotten?
Action Step: Reach out to someone older or isolated today with a call or visit—and remind them they are seen.
Prayer: God, remind me that I am known and valued, no matter what changes in my life. Amen.
