When Life Feels Heavy – Monday, 06/23/2026
Scripture: Psalm 42:1–11
There are seasons when life feels heavy. Not always dramatic. Not always one big crisis. Just heavy. The responsibilities keep coming. The news keeps spinning. Family concerns keep pressing. Grief shows up in unexpected ways. Even ordinary tasks can feel like more than we have energy to carry.
Psalm 42 gives us permission to be honest about that kind of heaviness. The psalmist does not pretend everything is fine. “My tears have been my food day and night,” the writer says. That is not polished religious language. That is real talk.
But the psalmist also refuses to let heaviness be the whole story. Again and again, the prayer turns toward hope: “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.” The pain is real. The longing is real. The questions are real. But God is real too.
That is where praise begins. Not with pretending. Not with forced cheerfulness. Praise begins when we tell the truth about life and the truth about God in the same breath.
This is heavy, and God is holy.
This is painful, and God is present.
This is confusing, and God is faithful.
When life feels heavy, prayer teaches us where to look.
Practice: Take two minutes today to name honestly what feels heavy. Then pray this sentence:
“God, this is heavy, and you are still my help.”
Prayer: God of hope, meet me in the heaviness I carry today. Help me tell the truth without despair. Teach me to notice your presence even when life feels hard. Amen.
