When Enough Is Hard to Trust - Friday, 07/10/2026
Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:6–10, 17–19; Proverbs 30:7–9
“Enough” can be hard to recognize.
There is always more we could want. More security. More comfort. More savings. More success. More approval. More certainty. More control.
Sometimes the desire for more comes from greed. But often it comes from fear.
We are afraid there will not be enough.
Afraid we will not be enough.
Afraid tomorrow will ask more of us than we can handle.
So we reach for more than we need, hoping it will finally quiet the anxiety.
The writer of Proverbs prays, “Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that I need.” That is a daily bread prayer. It asks for enough — not too little, not too much, but what is needed to live faithfully.
Paul tells Timothy that godliness with contentment is great gain. He does not say money is evil. He warns that trusting wealth to secure us can lead our hearts away from God. Instead, those who have resources are called to be generous, ready to share, and rich in good works.
Contentment does not mean pretending everything is fine. It means learning to trust that God is enough even when life is uncertain.
Daily bread trains us to say: “God, give me what I need, and make me generous with what I have.”
Practice: Look around today and name three things that are already enough. Then ask: “Where is God inviting me to loosen my grip and practice generosity?”
Prayer: God of enough, I confess that fear often makes me reach for more than I need. Teach me contentment without complacency and generosity without fear. Give me what I need today, and help me share what I can. Amen.
