Scripture: John 14:26–27
Many people wish God would speak more clearly. We want certainty. Direction. Answers. We want to know what decision to make, how things will turn out, or whether we are truly going to be okay.
Jesus understood that fear and uncertainty would be part of human life. That is why, before his death, he promised the Holy Spirit would continue guiding and teaching his followers. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” Not temporary comfort. Deep peace.
The Spirit often speaks differently than we expect. Sometimes through scripture that suddenly feels personal. Sometimes through wise friends. Sometimes through a deep inner conviction. Sometimes through worship music, silence, prayer, or a moment of clarity that breaks through confusion.
The challenge is that our lives are noisy. Constant distraction leaves little room to notice the Spirit’s voice. Phones buzz. Schedules overflow. Minds race. It becomes difficult to hear anything deeper than the next demand for our attention.
Yet throughout scripture, God repeatedly meets people in quiet moments. Elijah heard God not in the earthquake or fire but in the sound of sheer silence. Mary heard God’s call in ordinary life. The disciples experienced the Spirit together while waiting and praying.
The Spirit still speaks today. Not usually through dramatic spectacles, but through faithful presence. Through reminders that we are loved. Through conviction when we wander. Through peace that steadies us in uncertain times.
You may not have all the answers you want today. But you are not alone in the waiting.
Reflection Question: When was the last time you experienced deep peace or clarity from God?
Action Step: Spend five uninterrupted minutes in silence today. Simply sit quietly and pray, “Speak, Lord. Your servant is listening.”
Prayer: God of peace, slow my racing mind and help me notice your Spirit moving in my life. Teach me to listen with openness, trust, and patience. Amen.
