The Holy Hidden in the Ordinary – Saturday, 6/27/2026

Scripture: Luke 24:13–35

On the road to Emmaus, two disciples walked with heavy hearts. Jesus had been crucified. Hope seemed lost. They were trying to make sense of grief, disappointment, and confusion.

Then a stranger joined them on the road.

They did not recognize him at first. Jesus was near, but they could not yet see him.

That sounds familiar. Sometimes God’s goodness is closer than we realize, but heaviness makes it hard to notice.

The disciples finally recognized Jesus in an ordinary moment: at a table, in the breaking of bread. Not in a dramatic display. Not in a lightning bolt from heaven. At a meal.

That is often how grace works. Quietly. Ordinarily. Nearer than we think.

A conversation.
A meal.
A walk.
A text from a friend.
A moment of peace.
A breath.
A table.
A sign that God has not left.

When we pray “hallowed be thy name,” we ask God to help us notice the holy hidden in the ordinary.

Life may still feel heavy. But the risen Christ still walks with us.

Practice: At the end of today, ask: “Where did I notice grace in something ordinary?” Write down one moment, however small.

Prayer: Risen Christ, walk with me today. Open my eyes to your presence in ordinary places. Help me notice grace at the table, on the road, in conversation, and in quiet moments. Amen.
