Praise Without Pretending – Friday, 06/26/2026

Scripture: Habakkuk 3:17–19; Psalm 34:1–8

Some people hear the word praise and think it means pretending. Smile. Be positive. Act like everything is fine.

But biblical praise is deeper than that.

Habakkuk names real loss: no blossoms, no fruit, no crops, no livestock, no visible signs that things are going well. He does not deny the hardship. He does not minimize the pain. Yet he still says, “I will rejoice in the Lord; I will exult in the God of my salvation.”

That is not fake. That is faithful.

Praise does not require us to ignore what is wrong. Praise helps us remember that what is wrong does not get the final word.

Psalm 34 says, “I will bless the Lord at all times.” That does not mean every time is easy. It means God remains worthy of trust in every time.

Praise says:
This is heavy, and God is holy.
This is painful, and God is present.
This is confusing, and God is faithful.

Praise tells the truth about God while also telling the truth about life.

Practice: Write or speak one honest praise sentence today:
“God, this is hard, and you are still faithful.”
“God, I am tired, and you are still near.”
“God, I do not understand, and I trust your love.”

Prayer: Faithful God, free me from fake positivity. Teach me a deeper praise — one that can hold sorrow and trust, honesty and hope, heaviness and holiness. Amen.
