Make Room - Thursday, 09/10/2026

Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:12–17

Think about the people closest to you.

Some are easy to understand.

Others require a little more patience.

One person needs time to think before speaking. Another processes everything out loud.

One person loves traditions. Another wants to change them.

One person wants to solve the problem immediately. Another needs some space first.

Relationships require room.

Colossians describes qualities like compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love.

None of those qualities is necessary when everyone behaves exactly the way we want.

Patience exists because people test our patience.

Forgiveness matters because people fail.

Humility matters because sometimes we are wrong.

Compassion matters because there are things happening inside another person that we may not fully understand.

Making room for someone does not mean abandoning your own needs or boundaries.

It means refusing to demand that everyone become more like you before you treat them with dignity.

Maybe that is one way to think about grace:

Grace gives people room to be unfinished.

Including us.

Reflection Question: Which difference in someone close to you is hardest for you to make room for?

Concrete Action Step: Instead of trying to correct one harmless difference today, simply notice it and let it be. Use the energy you would have spent correcting to show kindness instead.

Prayer: Patient God, thank you for making room for me while I am still growing. Give me patience with the people around me. Help me offer the same grace I need for myself. Amen.
