Fear Builds Walls — Wednesday, 05/13/2026

Scripture: Ephesians 2:14

Paul writes that Christ “has broken down the dividing wall.” That image feels especially important right now.

Fear builds walls everywhere. Emotional walls. Political walls. Racial walls. Generational walls. Social walls. Even spiritual walls.

Sometimes those walls are visible. More often, they exist quietly inside us. We stop listening. We assume motives. We avoid conversations. We stay inside comfortable groups that think like we do.

The problem is that walls rarely stay small. The longer fear shapes us, the harder compassion becomes. Fear narrows the heart.

But Jesus spent his ministry crossing boundaries people thought should remain in place. He touched people others avoided. He spoke to outsiders. He welcomed those labeled unworthy or unclean.

That same Spirit is still at work today.

God is always moving toward reconciliation, healing, and restored relationships. Not every relationship can be repaired. Not every conflict disappears. But followers of Jesus are called to become bridge-builders instead of wall-builders.

That starts with small acts of courage. Listening. Humility. Curiosity. Grace.

And sometimes the first wall God wants to break down is the one inside our own hearts.

Reflection Question: What wall might God be asking me to dismantle?

Action Step: Have one respectful conversation this week with someone whose experiences, opinions, or background differ from your own.

Prayer: God of reconciliation, break down the walls fear has built inside me and teach me to become a person of peace. Amen.
