Building on the Right Foundation - Monday, 08/17/2026
Scripture: Matthew 7:24–27
Every home looks fine on a clear day. It's the storm that reveals what's underneath — the layoff, the diagnosis, the argument that goes too far, the year that just gets hard. Jesus doesn't promise the wise builder a storm-free life. Both houses get hit by the same wind and rain. The difference is what's holding everything up when the pressure comes.
In the Wesleyan tradition, we talk about grace as the ground beneath everything we do — not something we earn by building well, but the foundation God lays before we ever pick up a hammer. Building your life, your marriage, your family on Jesus isn't a guarantee against hard seasons. It's the assurance that something will still be standing when the hard season passes.
Reflection Question: What is your home currently built on — habits, income, keeping the peace, achievement — and what would it look like to shift the foundation toward Christ this week?
Today's Application: Name one decision or habit this week where you'll choose obedience to Jesus's way of love over convenience or control.
Prayer: Lord, you are the rock beneath our shaky ground. When the storms come — and they will — hold what we cannot hold ourselves. Teach us to build on you today, before the wind picks up. Amen.
