After the Lights Go Out
Scripture: Matthew 2:9–12
The Magi encounter Jesus not on Christmas night, but afterward—when the excitement has passed and the journey continues. Matthew makes this clear on purpose. Faith isn’t just about showing up for a moment of wonder; it’s about how we live when the glow fades and life returns to normal.
After they find the child, the Magi worship. They offer gifts. And then something quietly significant happens: they go home by another road. Meeting Jesus doesn’t just move their hearts—it changes their direction.
Many of us know the feeling of the days after Christmas. The decorations are still up, but the pressure, the worries, and the unfinished business of life are still there too. This story reassures us that God is still guiding, even when life feels ordinary again.
Faith after Christmas is not about holding onto a feeling. It’s about trusting God enough to take the next step, even when the path looks different than we expected.
Reflection Question:
What feels different in your life now that Christmas is over?
Action Step:
Take five quiet minutes today and ask: “God, what direction are you inviting me to take next?”
Prayer:
Guiding God, help me trust You after the celebrations end. Lead me forward, one step at a time. Amen.
